More Precise Benchtop Measurements from 0.5 to 8 GHz

Posted June 21, 2014 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Combining a 40 Gsamples/second 10-bit ADC with bandwidths as high as 8 GHz gives this oscilloscope four times the vertical resolution (1 mV per division) of conventional tools, an effective number of bits (ENOB) of more than eight, and horizontal accuracy of ±75 ppb (parts per billion, with a "b"). The 14 new models include 4-channel DSOs and 16-channel MSOs at seven different bandwidths ranging from 500 MHz to 8 GHz. Flat magnitude response ensures signal integrity and measurement repeatability. The 4-channel model offers memory of 50 Mpoints per channel - 2 channels with 100 Mpoints with interleaving. A solid-state mass-storage device provides higher speed and better reliability than a conventional hard disk drive.

With wavelengths of 60 to 4 cm, proper cabling and impedance matching must be performed so that the test equipment does not significantly alter circuits under test.
