Wearable Technology Brings Innovation, Connectivity to Maintenance and Operations

From improvements in machine-to-machine communications to the increased reliance on the Internet of Things, technology is changing the face of maintenance and operations. The newest entry to the mix is wearable technology. Although still in their infancy in industrial settings, wearable devices such as Google Glass and Jawbone wristbands show promise in many areas. Potential benefits include providing real-time information on operations, improving productivity, and properly allocating labor. The biggest challenge, however, is ensuring employees that Big Brother isn't lording over them.

Most places I have to visit already forbid my cell phone, so I have to leave it locked at the reception desk in the lobby. With enough wearable tech, those lobbies will have to include changing rooms and jumpsuits for their guests.
