Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

A Period-Modified 1970 GTO Appears on the ‘Rockford Files’

As a regular viewer of The Rockford Files when the show originally aired in the 1970s and I was just a little kid, I've remained a fan since then. Every few years or so, I end up watching episodes again via reruns on TV or the DVD collection.

While there's plenty to be written on Jim Rockford's (James Garner) string of gold second-gen Firebirds, this blog will instead discuss the third episode of season three entitled "The Family Hour." For Pontiac fans, this one is unique among the others because it's a departure from the norm-Jim chasing crooks or being chased by them while driving his '76 (for this season) gold Firebird. In fact, the Firebird is parked for this episode. Instead, you get a jacked up 1970 GTO, courtesy of the bad guys.

Another legendary '70s TV auto gets its due on Hemmings.

All you need now is some 30 cent/gal gasoline to put in it.
