Biomass Ethanol

Honda Motor Co. and the Research Institute of Innovative Technology (RITE) have developed the first practical process for producing ethanol from cellulosic biomass such as waste wood and leaves. According to Hideaki Yukawa, chief researcher at RITE's molecular microbiology and genetics lab, "This achievement solves the last remaining fundamental hurdle to ethanol production from soft biomass."

This article is very interesting but it seems that there are other ways to get around the supply shortage of corn and other crops by producing it. Micro-algae is the answer. Not only can bio-diesel be created from micro-algae, but it will produce up to 10 times the volume per acre as compared to the best oil seed crop
