Laser-Marked Broccoli

Pathfinder Tags: FDA laser labeling laser marking

Forget all those annoying little plastic labels you find on your tomatoes. Soon, you'll be seeing laser-marked numbers. The technology has been held up awaiting approval from the U.S. FDA; tests are complete and the agency is working on documentation. Look for laser labeling in your local produce department by early next year.

That's a pretty good idea. I have on occasion washed an apple and bitten into it only to discover that I failed to get all of the produce stickers off. Not good times (and not some of my proudest moments either).

As the FDA is finding out LASER marking is not dangerous after it is finished, and with the proper protection the same applies for the actual marking itself. I think that it will save every one that uses it. From the producer to the consumer and the enviroMentalist too. Conservation is a major part of the push to laser marking. Well something is pushing it.
