When muscle car restorers and collectors Frank Arone and Matt Barczak get a lead on a car like this special-order color 1969 Z/28, they respond quickly because these rare ones don’t normally linger for sale once they surface. Consequently, when Frank received the call on a Friday in January of 2019, but was unavailable to go and see the car due to a prior commitment, he immediately contacted Matt. He and his wife Becky made the 80-mile drive from Northern Cambria to West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, to inspect the pony car on Saturday and meet with the widow of its owner.
“The Z/28 was originally painted a GMC (and Chevrolet) truck color called Light Blue, Matt says. “It’s also referred to as Carolina Blue because it looks like the school color for the University of North Carolina. There is another known 1969 Z/28 that was painted this color.”
