Tapping Tornados

Posted August 31, 2007 8:17 AM

Pecos Bill merely lassoed a tornado for one wild ride. This engineer wants to grab a tornado to generate power — 200 MW of it. He's already made some models, has a proposal, and is totally serious. The Toronto Star reports...

The easiest way to do that would be to connect power generators to playground equipment. For example, a generator can be coupled to a merry-go-round, with the merry-go-round itself serving as a flywheel to store energy, while a mechanical device that will convert the oscillating motion of see-saws and swings into circular motion can be used to turn generators.

Pacos Bill should be put away. Let him spend someones money only to find out that it does not work that way. Let him get in harms way! He is the type of person that would stand in front of a moving train. Tornados need to be respected. Does he know that debris is a part of a tornado? Let him stand in front of a moving tornado.
