Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Watch This: Yet Another Barn Find? You Betcha!

You know what we never get tired of? You know what we always love? Do you appreciate that which gives us joy? If your answer was "barn find," you'd be going home with that brand-new toaster. Or at least a slightly used phone charger.

And here's another one: A '55 Chevy gasser neatly tucked away in a truck trailer used as a storage unit behind a shop, presumably somewhere in Indiana. While you drink in every frame of this video, think about something: the pains and expense that people go through in 2021 to replicate what a bunch of kids were doing with their own tools and friends 50-plus years ago is astounding. Every design cue, custom touch, modification and race-prep noodly-nood was done out of a need to go faster, get lighter, make it cheaper, and break as few things as possible to get back to the race track again the following week. What came out of that effort was the timeless look of a gasser.

So, think about that and then think about this: These things are still out there. Even after a decade of "picker" reality TV and more car shows in a given year than at any other point in human history, not every old drag car has been found yet. So, keep looking. We're gonna do the same. And in the meantime, enjoy this video for no other reason than the thrill of discovering a car like this. Whew!

Go ya one better! I helped with the retrieval last summer of a 1913 Ahrens-Fox Model A and a 1927 Pierce-Arrow Model Z, both fire engines. Both were and will remain original and unmolested. They hadn't run for 60 plus years. The 1913 is now running, and the 1927 engine is freed from being stuck, but not tried to start yet.
