Nanotechnology — Reality or Hype?

Posted November 10, 2007 8:18 AM

You can't turn around without reading about how nanotechnology is 1) the monster market opportunity of our time, 2) the techno-plague in waiting, or 3) poised to revolutionize every aspect of our lives. The political and financial communities are quick to celebrate the growth opportunity. Think tanks around the world warn of environmental and health disasters just around the corner. Analysts mix frankly impossible sounding market projections with predictions of how nanotech will change everything.

Is it cynical of me to think that the reality is not nearly so risky — or rosy — as the hype machine would have us believe? What's the word from the trenches?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Nano Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Nano Technology today.

Another thing is that Nano Technology is now a buzz word and is used in many advertisements that sell products that arent truly nanotech. These days there are a lot of products being pushed on the maket as highly improved because they use nanotechnolgy, when in fact, they are still made the way they always were.

The hype machine is doing what it almost always does, to either over or under estimate the potential of anything and everything.

Nano Technology will require continued development over time, As new products and methods of use are forthcoming it will accelerate progress.

My opinion is that it will expand with time.

Nano technology is formidable and here to stay rather replace most of the conventional technologies as advantages are far more to disadvantages and answers almost every aspects of science , be it chemistry , medicine , physics , electronics , genetics , still in its prilimanary stage it has potential to grow , some day cure to cancer , AIDS will be possible that will be cheap ,clean energy efficient devices , superconductivity ,will be contributed majorily by nano technology
