Pharmaceutical products must conform to FDA regulations to ensure correct packaging; the labels are legible, etc. Machine-vision inspection provides critical support to this production step. Vision systems have been in use for many years especially in inspection scenarios. Basically, the images are visual reproductions of the object in real time and can only be distorted somewhat but not altered. The accuracy of these imageing devices can only be supported by the documentation generated during the validation of said devices. The validation of these devices must follow the guidelines stipulated by the regulating agencies and therefore provide documented evidence of their performance.
