No-Fake C-Notes

Posted February 10, 2008 8:05 AM

The war against counterfeiting may soon see momentum swing to the side of the good guys. Scientists are working hard to develop what is being coined the "unfakeable $100 bill." How are they doing it? Holographic images, metameric inks, intaglio patterns, and microlenses.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Lab Equipment, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Lab Equipment today.

Perhaps they could look at Australian banknotes since they already have many of these features. ffeJ

The British banknotes have all that, plus a 1.5mm x 1/100mm silver stripe running through it! Recently there has been a large amount of fake banknotes discovered by shops and the like, which use a UV light system to check if the notes are fake or not.

Ontario Canada is producing new drivers licenses with many anti-counterfit features.

According to local news paper, less than one month after they were introduced, the City of Markham, Ontario police closed down two counterfiters operating within an industrial building. They were making debit cards, health card, SIN cards and yes new driver licenses with holograms via their hologram machine. Some of the cards were reportedly very evident that they were fake. Others were reported to be likely accepted by most.

Phooey! Anything that can be made can be duplicated. The trick is to make it so costly to fake that it's uneconomical. If a $100.00 bill costs $150.00 to create, the government doesn't care, they underwrite it with taxes. The crooks can't afford to keep up with them. I just hope WE can...

I had saw something on cable about 3 weeks ago. Right now it takes about $0.02 ea. to make a "real" bill.

2¢ per bill for production perhaps, but all of the infrastructure is already paid for. Bet that's in the mega-millions range!

If you can manufacture it, it can be duplicated.

If you have it, it can be taken.

If it is desireable, it will be stolen.

$100 dollar US notes are coppied because they are popular.

10,000 (fill in currency) notes are not.

VISA credit cards are popular.

Bank of (fill in country) are not.

Windows is widely used, other OS is not.

Popularity encourages forgery.

Maybe Regan should not have sold Iran those printing presses from the U.S. Treasury.

He really should not have left the $100.00 plates in the presses when they were shipped. You can't tell me it was an accident the Treasury has to many requaltions and checks for plates to be left in presses scheduled for shipping to another country.
