Intel Becomes Green Power Giant

Posted February 17, 2008 7:53 AM

Your computer may have just become greener: Intel announced this week that it will purchase over 1.3 billion kWh/year of renewable energy certificates, accounting for 46% of the company's total electricity use. Sterling Planet will be the selected supplier of biomass, wind, solar, and geothermal energy. Intel is now the largest buyer of green power in the U.S., and the scale of the sale is expected to lead to increased renewable capacity, lower costs all around, and greater impetus for other big corporate rigs to follow suit. What do you think? Status quo or go with the new flow?

Will never happen in the US, until alternative energy costs can compete with fossil fuel derived energy. It's all about $ gang...

This is like robbing Peter to pay Paul.People save energy and wastefull companies buy credits oin the energy saved? This makes no sense at all.Intel using alternative energy like solar ,windpower and super insulation makes more sense.Having someone else do it and you buy the savings just makes companies like Intel waste more.
