Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Election 2008: Muscle Machine of the Year

Posted September 16, 2008 12:01 AM by dstrohl

This year marks the third time we've offered the finalists up to the readership as candidates in a voting competition, leaving the ultimate say in this matter up to you. Simply whittling the list of featured cars from the past calendar year down to 12 takes some doing and, inevitably, some fantastic cars didn't make the final cut–there just aren't enough slots.

The 12 cars from the 2008 issues we've published so far this year exemplify the range of reasons that land a feature car on the MMOY ticket, with some concours-restored cars; an original unrestored example; some factory skunk works specials; a couple drag racers; and even a never-was creation.

...in my opinion, the 1968 Dodge Charger was the most beautiful muscle car, especially the later 1970-71 versions with 426-Hemi or 440-6pack engines!

...I had a '68 Charger with 383-2BBL and it was decent highway car, getting about 20 mpg at 55-65 mph.
