How Microsoft Moves Vista

Posted November 09, 2008 8:11 AM

Here's a new conspiracy theory: the never-ending Microsoft software updates delivered via the Internet clog up the computers that download them, making them run more slowly, until they eventually crash or perform so badly the owners decide to give up and buy a new computer. After all, computers are only supposed to last for two years, aren't they? But today everyone who buys a new computer must also buy Microsoft's slow-selling Vista operating system.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Drives, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Drives today.

...true. The only thing worse than BIG BROTHER, is the MS _____-software he uses (fill-in your own blanks)!

Microsnot has been deliberately destroying computer performance for some time. Their Symantec division AKA Nortons Antivirus completely ruins older computers and is difficult to remove. To add insult to injury, they charge for this Trojan horse.

I am amazed that the worlds large companies and Governments are allowing themselves to be held ransom to the "Little Plagarist". Surely big business can afford a task group to steer Linux to cater for the needs of business including Virus and Virus software immunity.

The only positive is the amount of private interest in Linux and Mac. The problem with Mac is remember the "LP" put $200 million into Apple when it was broke, so he has both sides of that fence covered.

I'm just an ordinary punter, don't use high-powered programs, etc. But with regular crashes of Windows XP, and Vista being more of the same, MS deserves to go belly-up like the rest of the American economy. QC out of the 70s, reminiscent of Lada, Ural and Trabant. Functionality barely better than XP, and temperamental to boot. After 7 re-installs in 7 years on 200NT & XP, I'm of the opinion that if Windows was a kid, it'd be one of those immune-system free kids living its life in a bubble. As for Vista, it's a pretty imitation (not copy - don't falsely credit it with this) of Mac OSX. The day you first start it up is the best it will ever be: unnecessary bells and whistles that use up RAM and storage, and dumbed-down compuiters requiring ever faster processor and processing speeds and storage to produce the same amount of end result. I've had a gutful of MS, their corporate strategy and their monopoly. MS has single-handedly created a new industry - the IT professional. Every firm needs one! Linux for me!

My son bought a macbook- no issues and no support calls in 3 months and he was a newbie. We've purchased our last MS machine...

My daughters and their partners run linux

Choices have consequences...

it would look like if the switch over from ms to mac was easier, as in software there will be more people that would switch,

but,

as users increase so would problems, such as hackers, viruses, worms........and to combat these. apple programs would become bloated....

its only an opinion, but if not, enjoy the change while it still good.

you are correct, as the percent of machines increase in the population, the ability to support an outbreak of a virus becomes greater.

But the ease of use and lack of "crapness" has been wonderful.
