I just recently returned from several days of Florida sunshine where,
among other things, I attended the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, held on
January 22-24. Offered as Lot F73 (indicating that it would cross the block on Friday,
if you're not familiar with Mecum's lot designation system), the VIN
indicated that this General started life as a Charger R/T complete with
a 375hp 440-cu.in. engine under the hood.
It's builder has since
installed a 500hp 426 with dual quads. Also part of the package is a
Dana 60 rear, front disc brakes and a 10-point roll cage hinged for
easy entry. To help bolster a strong bid, the consigner claimed that
the rotisserie restoration produced "the highest quality General Lee
re-creation on the planet." Under the lights, it was bid up to $51,000,
and then left Kissimmee unsold.
