Dry ice evaporates, or more accurately, sublimates. It does not "melt." Melt implies changing to a contiguous state, which would be a liquid. Dry ice changes directly to a gas.

...when at atmospheric pressure. There are instances where dry ice is an advantage over soda due to that fact of sublimation where there surface is left ultra-clean.

I think dry ice might work better to remove plaques of mineral over metal, since it also acts by rapidly cooling the superficial layers, with delayed cooling of the substrate.
