We all have a long way to go with respect to mass energy storage, although California perhaps has more opportunities to exploit pumped hydro than other States, their really big advantage is in wind and solar potential. Californians will need to learn how to couple large scale (thermal IMHO) energy storage with fast start generation, or with optical coupling of output energy (molten silicon with TPV) in order to really make a big dent in this issue.
