Choke Amps Calculations for VFD

How to calculate the choke current, mH and % for VFD which is used to ON/OFF motor.

VFD - 15 A, Motor -10 HP, 7.5 KW

By contacting the VFD manufacturer, usually by telephone.

If the drive is CE-marked, then it doesn't need an external choke.

If you are referring to line chokes, or line reactors, they are sold based on their current capacity, so basically all you need to do is size it to match the rated INPUT current of your VFD. As to the reactance necessary, that depends on what you intend to accomplish with the choke. Of you are looking to protect the drive from the effects of line transients, 3% is really all you need. If you are hoping to use a simple reactor just to mitigate harmonics, they are not very effective at that, so if you are going to do it at all, you might as well go for 5%. How many mH that equates to is effectively irrelevant, because 3 and 5% are what most reactor mfrs make and sell, anything else would be custom, and for a motor tht small, not worth the effort.

All that was assuming you want to select the proper choke as a USER of the VFD. If the purpose of your question being so specific about calculating mH and amps was because you wish to MANUFACTURE chokes, and you have to ask this question, then I suggest finding a different line of work...
