CR4 Advertising Outrage

06/08/2015 8:05 AM

Well, I am looking to be sent to the naughty step for this one.

What * ARE YOU DOING TO OUR CR4?

Removed rude language

-Cr4 Admin

This is not youtube or people of walmart or any of those other high traffic sites that cater to trailer park trash with banal images of trashy people. So why are you forcing us to deal with pop up advertisements and lowering the standards of the ads? Are we going to start seeing the pages covered with flashy ads for magnetic water softeners and vortex air fuel enhancers?

This being stated...where do we take our intellectual efforts next? Does anyone know any good forums that cater to our talents?

Drew K

I second the complaint. This NACE school ad just keeps popping up.

Adblock Plus is the way forward. I've been using it for years. Some sites detect it and ask you to disable it, explaining that they couldn't provide the service (whatever it may be) without the revenue generated by peeps seeing the ads - you can disable it for their site (or page) only if your conscience pricks you.

What ads?

I have Adblock Plus as well and I rarely see anything anywhere I go.

Generally speaking if you assume you will be "looking to be sent to naughty step" whatever that means, you shouldn't write what you're about to say.

There is one add that pops up. Use pop up blocker or simply slick close.

We apologize for your frustration, but that does not mean you should neglect the rules of conduct. CR4 Rules of Conduct in case you need a refresher.

Users over at ElectricianTalk kept talking about the ads as well...

...I don't get any ads. I don't even know where they would appear. I use standard IE10 with no add-ons.

That being said, if one is using a mobile device and getting the mobile site, then some ads are part of the bargain.

Third party advertisers usually control the content, or the host, not the site itself (CR4). It's tough some times to get decent consistency...yet those ads keep sites afloat.

I agree that the popup ad can be a little intrusive, but a single click makes it disappear each time it shows up. You don't have to wait until it disappears. I don't really even notice it at this point. I just click off to the side and move on.

As others mentioned, you can try installing popup blocking software.

Most websites have advertising. The ads have been part of CR4 for more than a year. The popup ad does not seem to run 100% of the time.

Forbes.com has a popup that covers the whole page; you must wait an allotted number of seconds before you can click to move on. I don't think their target audience is "trailer park trash."

I have been a contributor here for over 5 years. I have seen ups and downs, but this forum like many other things in 'modern' society has seriously degraded in quality.

CR4 has a significant following that can be affected for benefit or detriment by how professional it looks. These ads seem cheap and I feel cheapen the experience and are a barrier to the viewer. Every time I am searching for something on the internet and I find a website with pop-up ads, I give it less credit than others. Just because Forbes has sold out doesn't mean CR4 should.
How many members have abandoned ship with the changes in ownership / management? I know I visit here much less often than I used to and contribute less of my knowledge and experience. Part of that is due to the intimidation and bullying performed by some members and supported by management, and part due to the change in that management.

Am I the next contributor to abandon CR4?
