Probably.

Was this made before, or after, Virgin Galactic Space Ship 2 crashed and killed one test pilot?

I see the concept as viable, depending on the payload. Branson/Rutan are a formidable team. What if they were to team up with Elon Musk?

(And maybe Anonymous Hero?)

The Air Force is now experimenting with launching small LEO satellites from F-15s.

The problem with White Knight and Spaceship one is that it can't get to LEO. Getting to LEO is about an order of magnitude more effort than the 65 mile altitude of Spaceship One.

....and a few orders more to reach that coveted GSO (32000km) level where the money is.

Well, if you want to make a plane to fly the 2970 metric tonnes of Saturn V up to 50,000 feet at the speed of sound - go ahead.

Saturn V

That said, there is a role for launching smaller satellites from various aircraft at ~~50,000 feet or more. With high performance second and third stages, the plane can take the place of the first stage, but, as I hint, not for the Larger ones
