Boeing just patented this gem of a powerplant.....will it ever see the light of day?

A little bit light on detail. More like a schoolboy's approach to the future of the jet engine or space travel.

Could you flesh out the fusion reaction part of the drawing??

The light of day? I'm hoping it sees the dark of outer space.

It's a little more complicated than that...

500 trillion watts might do it, but it's a little heavy to fly!

Yeah, but with 1.21 jigawatts you get flight!

I thought the proper formula was

1.21 jigawatts + flux capacitor + velocity of 88 MPH = time travel.

Flight mode wasn't ever mentioned in those movies to actually require the separate power plant (Nuclear then "Mr Fusion") which in my opinion was only used for the time travel circuits not vehicle locomotion/flight.

all Star Trek jokes aside, what caught my eye was the fusion. mo one has cracked that code yet outside of the Sun wonder if they have their own Skunk Works?

Yes they do, but you will never hear about them.

Probably never see the light of anything except patent infringement litigation on future technology.

They must all be killed simultaneously, otherwise one might escape to cause future litigation.

It is simply the acceleration of the fuel, represented by the sphere, by means of the recyclic turbine, into the convergent laser beams so as to cause focused field fusion and resultant reaction. Bob's your uncle.....

It must be good. It's a "hybrid" (though it never uses that term).

It has a laser/fusion part, and a fission part. Lasers are used to trigger fusion in the deuterium target. The helium resulting from the fusion is exhausted out the back and used for thrust, and the radiation by-products are used to cause fission in the Uranium 238 lining of the fusion chamber. The heat of fission is used to power the lasers for the fusion part.

I think this technology is ready right now for implementation in certain situations. The main one is to power a space vehicle in a science fiction novel or movie. Another is to generate discussions on CR4. Another has already been implemented, to be filed as a patent to improve someone's resume.

Nuclear rain will be next, I can't wait to hear the howls of protest and "I told you so's" from the contrail conspiracy folks!
