Gday Nivasram,

If the buffer tank you mention is on the suction side of the compressor it is intended as an accumulator, Its purpose is to collect any liquid refrigerant returning from the evaporator and allow it to boil off before it reaches the compressor.(Especially important in cold climates) The reason being is that liquid into the compressor is a terminal disease. If it is on the discharge side of the compressor it serves much the same purpose providing a container to receive and hold liquid refrigerant so that the TX valve is able to work efficiently, without a backup into the condensor and compressor.

Regards

Coben
