Smoke and Mirrors or Not

07/13/2015 10:16 AM

Has anyone Heard of "The Electricity Freedom System". I understand how decomposing things like hay can create heat, but how could you turn that into enough electricity to power your home. http://electricityfreedom.com/video/?subid=1newmaided09JulA&suid=ek35mm850oupf3d6tn5470hlm3

Sure looks like a scam to me, after wasting my time listening to the presentation that says absolutely nothing. BUT, for only $39.95 you can get his video and plans that should demonstrate exactly why this is BS. Sure enough, this idea is paying all his energy bills, $39.95 at a time.

While I said that the presentation said "absolutely nothing", on reviewing it there were a number of obvious red flags. For example he stated that he "just plugged this mystery box into an outlet and was able to power his whole house". 24 KW (100 amps @240V) through an outlet???. And, how did the Electric utility allow him to tie this into their grid??? All within his quoted budget $200 or so, if I recall??? I am sure that this provided plenty of heat while his house burnt to the ground.

you'd have to be a fool to think 39 bucks would do all that! It takes at least 3 easy payments of $29.95

Ohhh! I'll take that payment plan. It's 10 dollars cheaper for right now.

I am giving this post a much higher rating than the single star (=junk) that it received.

We, as a community of engineers, can immediately recognize this referenced website as a scam. However, these scams flourish because a large percentage of our populations are totally ignorant of even the basic principles of science and engineering. How many people have any idea of where the electricity, that they take for granted in there homes comes from, and how it works? How many people have even heard of the laws of thermodynamics, let alone understand them? Almost daily I receive phone calls from someone claiming to save me money on my electric bill if only I just commit to their contract.

It is our responsibility to be aware of such scams, and educate the public as to why they are scams. After all, at $40 a pop, it only takes a few thousand ignorant fools to provide a good income.

Geeze. Loaded up the website page for a look and then tried to leave and was assaulted with popup spam boxes promoting the website.

Stay well away from this one.

Wait a moment! After a further study of the referenced article, I discovered that the author, Rich Lubbock has indeed developed a system of Cold Fusion, first investigated by Dr. Emmett Brown which can develop an energy output of 2.1 gigawatt's from simple organic material. It appears that Dr. Brown has used this fantastic energy source to travel in time in order to provide Mr. Lubbock with the means to save the planet from the greed of the electric utilities.

As I agree with the others he is taking you for a ride. For much of what he is selling is free info if you look. In decomposing biomass not only is heat generated but also Methane. Which can be used to heat your home and or run a generator. Takes an awful lot of grass clippings. And your not going to have grass clipping thru the winter. So now you have to store Methane.

It may be better to buy one of those Pellet makers and turn the biomass into pellets to burn in a stove. Dry pellets would be easier to store and not to complicated machinery.

As a kid, one of my favorite displays at the museum of science and industry in Chicago.

It was a hand cranked generator with a switched connection to a light bulb, Easy to crank with light bulb off, Hard to crank with light bulb on. I don't think the light bulb was more than 25 watts. The light bulb never achieved more than a weak glow, of course, that was me cranking, the kid with beach sand in his eyes.Go figure........

When I was in the navy, one of the items we had to do annual PMS on was an emergency transmitter for the life boats. It was a hand-cranked 5W FM transmitter. About the size of a loaf of bread. You wedged it between your knees with the crank on top and cranked it for thirty seconds for the test. It took both hands and made me glad I never had to actually use one for real.

Yea, because having to crank that handle while lost in the middle of the ocean after the ship sinks would be real inconvenient.
