Wanted: Free Software for Simulating Electronic Cicuits

07/18/2007 8:45 AM

After you complete the design of an electronic or electrical circuit, for its checking in the computer how do you simulate that for free?

Hi sayedrahimhaidari

You still haven't told us if it's analogue, digital or mixed simulation that you're interested in.

Google free electronic simulation program.

Mcap spectrum is one... they do a downloadable sample which will simulate small circuits...it's ok but takes some getting used to. They all have limitations ..good for demos...but sometimes quicker to build it yourself!

Del,
a good choice for me has been the LINEAR SWITCHER CAD from Linear Technologies. It`s a SPICE program for free, very comfortable. It was primarily built for switching regulator simulation but has a lot of "normal" devices like OPs and others and can be completed with own models from other manufacturers like AD. There are no limitations though its for free, a difference to many trial versions of expensive programs like multisim etc.
Regards Uwe

If you're talking analogue simulation then the other posts have answered your question.

If you're looking for digital simulation, I'm surprised that I can't find anything on the net. My best suggestion is that you use one of the free design packages from the EPLD vendors (like say Quartus II from Altera) and recreate your design as if it's an EPLD. Of course the timing analysis will be all wrong but at least you'll get get it correct functionally.

Please post if you do find something.

"After you complete the design of an electronic or electrical circuit, for its checking in the computer how do you simulate that for free?"

While not exactly free, you can simulate the circuit using the software called Electronic Workbrench. It is similar to Spice prgram except it is graphic base, you connect the circuit just like you would building it. You can then test it and take your measurment using built in scopes and meters.

Here is a link for the software:

Hope it help.

Good grief! There are about 1,000,000 versions of SPICE available for free download on the net. Yes it is a bit of a bother to learn but it is the "Daddy" of all circuit simulation packages out there. Learn it and be happy forever...

free student version of PSPice. It is fairly easy to learn.

there are a bunch of add-on files on this page also.
