Leaching Processes to Make High Purity Silica

08/05/2015 11:27 AM

I am just beginning a study of methods to produce high purity silica glass. I understand that there are several processes for leaching impurities, mostly other metal oxides, from silica. I am frustrated in my search by all the information available regarding mining processes to make glass bottles. Interesting information but I'm looking at processes to make very high purity silica (and to do so in an environmentally appropriate way, too).

Don't ya just hate when that happens, getting frustrated.

Like when we get frustrated by anonymous posters posting statements with no question and that leave no room for anything else.

Probably just another consultant who took on an assignment that he/she is unqualified for.

Yup! About all you can do is:

To OP:

Google search for high purity silicon glass.

Come back when you can be more specific in query form; and after you have registered.

So, is this how IHS Engineering360 works? New users who are determining if this site has value receive derisive responses to their inquiries? It seems the only thing missing from the three professionals who replied is an acute examination of any grammatical errors I may have made. Oh, right, there was a link for a Google search which I suppose might have some value to those who post on this site. Forgive me for not posting my inquiry in the form of an explicit question; I thought there would be value in a discussion of the topic and didn't realize the rules of the game call for an explicit question.

I might click the "off topic" box below this message but, then, I probably would do so for all the responses I have received. What a pity. If there is a way to delete my question, I will certainly do so.

And, I'll go find another forum with a more congenial membership.

You made a statement, there was no "query" present nor did you invite any discussion on the topic that was evident.

Discussions on any relevant engineering topic are always welcomed here and often garner much in the way of input from many of the regulars. Perhaps if you had of indicated that you wanted such a discussion, by starting it off, one would surely have been initiated.

This forum is amongst the best engineering forums out there. The quality of the responses from the membership is directly related to the material presented as the seed for the exchange. You provided nothing other than that you are frustrated.

Finally... identify your self by choosing a name to use. Anonymous posters are often considered as irrelevant in many ways as it makes it very hard to build any kind of rapport or consistency.
