Which drafting software are you using? I might be able to help with AutoCAD or Inventor.

Or are you asking about drawing as in stamping? If so, what is the width:depth ratio of your drawn feature?

Depth to face ratio is a consideration. Have made many products in 409 and it is no problem to draw ... drawing oil is essential other wise the material will gall and the die radius will build up with galled material. The drawing oil we use is a Fuchs product if you are interested will send you by return email specs ... gbatt@internode.on.net Draw radius as a ratio of thickness is important and best to use in most circumstances a pressure draw plate, but we have for certain products got away without one. If you send me a drawing of the component to the above email address I will get back to you. We use to make press tools and manufacture a range of car & truck mufflers out of 409 and for doing the baffles we used no draw plate but you had to take into account the tolerance of the material and make sure that the punch to draw die gap was equivlent to the minium thickness material ... this meant the material was sqeesed down to minium thickness on the walls of the product and so the product did not get a gathered effect arouund the top edge ... the depth of draw was only 10 mm. For samples & short runs we have made and used soft mild steel draw dies ... which facinated a lot of people but we use to get away with it by using the best drawing oil. Gordon Australia I am sure I am registered, but as with most of these passwords, etc I cannonot remember.
