RF Antenna Taser

10/12/2015 8:01 PM

Is there a possibility I could make use of the free radiated energy from a radio broadcasting station as a taser. I recall when we were young, fixing the antenna wire by biting it to expose the wire inside, it tasted electrifying and I wonder way back then how did electricity get in there when its not plugged on supply. What do you think? Does this idea work? I mean, it could be tweaked adding some voltage multiplier circuit like the way camera flash works.

I want to scare the bugs real good, for home use of course.

No.

Only a fool would ever conceive of this.

Tasers are not toys to be played with by children.

Go take your pills and go to bed.

Are you a rabbit? I ask because this is a hare brained scheme.

The broadcast power from radio stations is only strong close at hand and people have already been charged for the crime of stealing this power to light fluorescent lamps, albeit at a low level. This power is not yours to take.

Far away, the levels would be too low to intercept, rectfiy, turn into DC to run a taser

The 'electrical' taste might just be your gustory sensation when copper wire is in your mouth.....or maybe just your current memory of the experience. Have you tried any wire recently? If it doesn't seem similar, then wait a week or two and compare the memories.

.

Alternately, if the antenna was on the roof and you were somewhat gounded, then you might have been experiencing the electrical potential gradient of the atmosphere. It is on the order of 100 volts per meter, but the charge density is low... which is why very tall people don't get shocked merely from standing up.

The low charge density leads to low current density (on the order of 10^-12 amps per square meter) which indicates low available power.

Say you had a collector 1000 meters high and you could access all the voltage that would be 100 kV or 10^6 volts.

1 amp at 1 volt is 1 watt.

So to get to 1 watt, you would have to collect charge from an area of 100,000 square meters.

so a 1000 meter tall 100,000 square meter collector yields 1 watt. Who knows, maybe I am off by several orders of magnitude. You still wouldn't get a good return on investment, but you might be able to recapture the electrical taste from your childhood.

.

It would not be stealing, I mean, those are transient energies wasted. Recalling the efficiency of the broadcasting station only happens when somebody has to pick and listen to their channel. Either no body listens or everybody listens, the same RF power they are putting on air, am I right?

Why not scavenge such energy and put it to useful means.

Tasers work like charging couple of capacitors(not a steady state, steady flow process), it only discharge when a bug is happen to drop by near electrodes then BAMMM! Send that bug to backwoods!

Stealing? Who said anything about stealing? Oh, you probably mean the value in the attention I paid. Well, it is true that I haven't received much good so far from the attention I paid to your post, but that just makes it a bad deal.l, not theft. Attention if expensive these days. Many can't afford to pay, even at even just the base package with no frills.

.

I did some quick numbers about the potential gradient in the atmosphere.

Just do something similar for a radio station. Assume it is 100,000 watts and that you are 1 mile away, that you somehow catch all the power over your antenna area facing the station. Just assume there are no losses in the path and that the signal is omnidirectional. If 100,000 watts of radiated power intersected the surface of a 1 mile radius sphere concentric with the source, how large would your antenna need to be to intersect 1 watt?

all has its premise, by the way.

I am saving some for myself.

I bet I answered the post of aurizon in my reply to you, that's why.

I suggest that you continuing the practice of biting wires until you find one of sufficient power to do the job.

Wear wool socks with an electrode inside and drag a brass ball on the end of a wire. Connect the wires to a capacitor and build up a good charge as you chase the offending bug around the house.

I bet you have metallic fillings. It sounds like you made a silver/copper/hydrochloric acid battery.
