You may or may not have heard about the "new" technology called Li Fi,which uses LED light sources to communicate with devices.
This is not really new.
I remember back in the 1980's there were using Fluorescent lights to update prices on items in stores.
The transmit rate was so fast that the human eye could not detect it.
The programs were written in "C".
This utilization of retinal memory was also used to play the first interactive tv show(I think it was "Concentration" or "Jeopardy"(but I can't trust my memory as much anymore) ), by using the blanking interval of the old NTSC sets to send info from the games to the player's console, which kept the player's score.
This opens another window on my paranoia:
One day,all houses,street lights,shopping malls,televisions, automobiles,and small
appliances will be able to transmit and receive messages without our knowledge.
Much as they do now with WiFi,but more ubiquitous and inescapable.
Couple this with opto-neural interface, which they already have in the lab,and you have real people control.
Not to worry too much, this won't become widespread about for at least another 20 years,by which time we, of the older clans will have moved on.
