Units of Data Storage

10/17/2015 1:03 PM

I found this helpful link defining the various units of data sizes:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=data+sizes+help&ia=cheatsheet&iax=1

I never heard of a Yottabyte, so I wonder if any of the large internet companies are approaching that level of storage...

In memory devices, memory locations are addressed by the binary number on the address lines: 10 lines address a 1 KB, 20 lines address 1 MB, 30 lines 1 GB, 40 lines 1 TB, and so on. So memory sizes are really in binary values.

I realize that hard drives can be any size, buy adding a second set of units (decimal) for memory size seems to just add confusion without providing much benefit, IMHO. Just my 2 cents.
