Hydraulic Cylinder

07/23/2007 1:38 PM

Hello-

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of a reputable supplier of small bore hydraulic cylinders. I've done web searches and have found some equipment that might work. However, I am hoping for some feed back from other Engineers.

Specs on what I need

  • 0.5"-0.80" Bore
  • 5"+ Stroke
  • EPDM or BUNA-N Seals
  • 2000PSI +

I'm looking for feedback from others, I've been searching the web and Globalspec already and will continue to do so.

Thanks,

fm!

Without searching their specs to your description, Parker, Enerpac, and PHD make reputable cylinders. I have had very good luck with Parker. You may want to, if you haven't already, contact a local distributor and pick their brains. Most are engineers and have a solid understanding of the application.

You may want to contact TMC Hydraulics, Temple, TX 254-774-8099 or Texas Hydraulics 254-778-4701.

A cheap version is a "Bimba", But you can't go wrong with a Parker.

We use a lot of Bimbas on our equipment but they are standard 120psi actuators.

Bimba and Clippard both make small cylinders.

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for your kind replies. The equipment I'm developing will be used to evaluate auto braking systems. I'm strongly considering using a "race car" master cylinder however most do not provide an adequate stroke length. I fear using a bore larger then 3/4" (which most recommended suppliers provide) due to input force requirements (less than 1000lbf for 2000PSI output). I guess it may help for you all to know that I intend to use the cylinder in reverse, I will be using a servo motor / linear actuator to provide force to a hydraulic cylinder with the hope of generating a pressure of at least 200PSI. Well, continue with the excellent suggestions!
