Grounding System for Power Substation

10/26/2015 3:53 PM

From electrical safety point of view, do we have to interconnect all the transformers' neutral grounding system with other electrical equipment grounding system in a power substation having 400/132/11/.4KV System? and why?

Many thanks for answer

What do the blueprints specify?

Do you have a clue?

I thought not.

If it's homework, look in your textbook.

If it's a question on a job application, leave the room, now.

If you are working on a HV substation, please give the forum the address of the job site.

If <...we...> have to ask in a global Engineering forum, <...we...> as an organisation are not qualified sufficiently to work locally in this area!

  • What does the "for construction" design drawing say?
  • What is wrong with asking the individuals whose names are on the drawing instead of coming here?
  • Is there no-one in the facility that one could ask face to face? It would be astonishing if there were not!

In my opinion, all neutral-transformers and generators- has to be connected to the same power station grounding grid directly or through a current limiting impedance. As it is noted in IEEE 665/1995 :

Eight methods of grounding are identified by IEEE Std C37.101-1993:

  1. High Resistance Grounded (Distribution-Transformer Grounded)
  2. High Resistance Grounded (Neutral-Resistor Grounded)
  3. Low Resistance Grounded (Neutral-Resistor Grounded)
  4. Low Inductance Grounded (Neutral-Reactor Grounded)
  5. Resonant Grounded (Ground Fault Neutralizer Grounded)
  6. High Resistance Grounding-Transformer Grounded
  7. Medium Resistance Grounding-Transformer Grounded

8.Ungrounded

I wouldn't want to walk about a substation that wasn't an equipotential zone.

With everyone having to do the fireman's shuffle it would take time to get about the place.

Normally transformer neutral has to have two independent neutral earth pits.So obviously it should not be connected to earth of other equipments.Body earth of transformer can be connected to other earth pits. The local rules on this should alos be considered.
