in 1987 in so cal we had twin shakers based in Whittier Calif. 2 in the same day was upsetting
that day I was working in downtown LA in the Security Pacific bank tower on Hope st on the 52nd floor doing a compressor in a computer room. Me and my assistant were in the maintenance elevator bringing our tools and a 7.5 ton comp on a dolly to that floor when the operator suddenly had issues with the car( the box we call the elevator) when the doors opened panicked people were running from their posh offices not sure what to do...when the car topped slamming against the walls I realized exactly where I was.....hanging 52 floors in a shaft...there really is nowhere to go so I pushed the comp out and told my helper to grab our stuff and lets get to work. on our next trip to our trucks on the 3rd or 4th floor underground parking I had a rare experience. 200+ cars had there car alarms blaring in the concrete echo chamber....it was really weird.when I got home and saw the news it was pretty damaging to brick buildings. they just have no chance in shaking like a stick built house.
