Pump Flow

11/18/2015 9:59 PM

hy fellas,

i'd like to ask about centrifugal pump. is it possible to know the capacity of a centrifugal pump by putting a pressure gauge in it's discharge pipe ? how ? is there a formula ? since it is very difficult to know of real capacity just by name plate. thank you

Pump Design Equations Formulas Calculator Discharge ...

If you know the brand and part number of the pump, look at the pump curve for that pump. They look like this↓

If you put a pressure gauge in the discharge pipe you know the pressure of the discharge pipe.

If you have a flow meter there you could calculate the hydraulic horsepower and judge back on the power of the pump.

If you create different flow conditions you can trace the pump curve.

Easiest of course is the ask the manufacturer for the pump curve.

The short answer is "No.".

Imagine if you would two pumps, each with same pressure at output. One is 25mm outlet, while the other is 500mm outlet.

You will need a combination of parameters to be measured to determine the actual output.
