Resistance Starters

07/25/2007 5:55 AM

What three types of resistance starters are there, for the use with slip-ring induction motors?

I am aware of the Metal and Liquid resistances but what type would the third be?

Look it up read some text books google it etc. etc. You learn a lot more by doing your own homework than by getting other people to do it for you

There is no use if u short the slip rings and start as a cage rotor. We may as well use a cage motor which is cheaper and sturdier and relatively maintenance free.Slip ring motors are used in certain applications that entail it.

I agree with perry... slip ring (wound rotor) motors are not very efficient at slow speeds. Since we now have VFD's, this is the way to go.

PS: the third method of limiting slip ring (rotor) current would be XL, (Inductive Reactance) (a coil - actually 3 coils for 3 phase)
