As I said when the Blue Origin booster stage earlier stuck its landing, a firm landing pad is the key. Insisting that Space X had to land on a floating barge makes more complications than necessary while assuring failures will happen at a safe location.
Now comes the real complication of a reusable vehicle, detecting and repairing for reuse.
Congratulations to the Space X team!

Without having to take some time to search, has there ever been a vertical touchdown on Earth from a stable orbit before? You see it in movies all the time. It seems to me like quite a feat.
Congratulations, SpaceX!
