Just figure out how much you need and buy a little extra.

Calculus would be one way; another way is accurate mechanical drawing.

Just ask the people doing the rolling, Mildred! You can use the phone, can't you?

Shouting will not encourage any answers. Not only that, but until you state what shape the head is (hemispherical, torispherical, ellipsoidal, other) there is no formula. However, 1.57 D will cover all of these cases, unless you fail to center the disk properly when you spin it.

The area of a hemisphere is 2 (pi) r2, with possibly some extra allowance for gripping it during the forming process. If made from more than one piece of plate, this can all change.

Normally circular blank is prepared for forming the dished end,the formula for the diameter of the blank required for the dished is

OD +OD/24+2/3KR+2SF

OD- Out side diameter of the dished end

KR- Knuckle Radius of the Dished end(Normally the Knuckle radius is 10% of the Out side diameter of the dished end

SF- Height of Straight Face Dished End(Normally 50 mm to 60 mm depending upon the size dished end)

The dished end are formed from metal sheets, the metal sheet req for forming dished end is called blank. The size of the blank can be derived from the following formula

Diameter of the Blank: OD + OD/24 +2/3KR+2SF,

OD - Out side Diameter of the DishedEend

KR- Knuckle radius of the Dished End(Normally 10% of out side of Dished End)

SF- Straight Face of the Dished End(Normally 50 mm to 60 mm Depends on the size of Dished End)
