Ac motor rated amps

07/26/2007 11:41 AM

Do the rpm's of a motor that is exceeding rated amps slow down? I am driving a blower with a 15hp motor rated amps 13.4. Two legs are 14.6 one leg at 13.9.

Assuming that the voltage is within 10% of motor nameplate requirements, yes. In your case, not much. I would throttle the air delivery side somewhat, or, in a belt drive situation, adjust the pulley sizes to reduce the speed of the blower to bring the motor to rated current in the highest leg. Make sure the heaters in the motor starter are sized properly. You should then be OK.

What is the Service factor (S.F.) of your motor. You might be alright.

S.F. is 1.15 and I found out this motor been pulling these amps for 6 years or better. This is on a boiler and I was trying to take into account the loss of air with the lower rpm. I set combustion today and all is well. Thanksa bunch guys.
