Knife Blades

07/26/2007 3:24 PM

I am curious if there is a "chisel like" knife blade manufactured. I have a need for a single edge razor blade with a chisel cutting edge (sharpened on one side). Any information on who might make such a blade would be SUPER!

Hi Compressor Guy,

Go here:

http://www.bentongraphics.com/home.html

I am in the coating industry and we buy these blade types in rolls. The blades we get are fairly thin (thinner than a utility knife blade), about 2-3" wide, and have the bevel only on one side. I don't know, but you may be able to get a short length sample from Benton Graphics.

Mike,

Thanks for the info! This confirms, if nothing else, that this type of blade does exist.

Thank you

Ron

works great in the right hands

Yup...half the fun is making the tools!

Amazing what you can make from one of those big fat hacksaw blades.

Im not sure if this would be something you would be interested in but I have a pocket knife from Columbia River Knife and Tool that I use for just about everything from gasket scraping to shaving wood, aluminum and assorted plastics. Great steel in the blade and compact yet has a very thick blade. I have the K.I.S.S. 5500 model and you can see it here.

I use it almost as much as my leatherman tool.

I have heard of these knives before, usually being that they are very dependable. Our application is going to be on a lathe so I was looking for a more disposal blade. I am going to investigate anyways because you never know.

Thanks for your help!

Hey ya Comp guy! Anything is possible! Look not towards what you want, look towards what is most economic. For instance they cleave diamonds don't they? It is a math question really. Enough mass plus momentum = result. Think!!!!

Turn a razor blade backwards and it will do your task at hand given enough thought/force.

Head for the nearest Gun show. Many of the knives you will find at a common knife table will have this "chisel" edge. I don't like them but if you find them usefull...good luck. Look for the pocket types that have a skelaton frame. Many of the ones that slide to the outside of the frame have to be like this so that the edge is shaded or protected in your pocket.

If you need a blade 1/4" - 1/2" wide, Xacto makes them.

I have some straight chisel edge blades about 6mm wide from this set, unfortunately there's no manufacturers info on the box or blades.

Try Zenith Cutter Co @ Zenithcutter.com

They have both standard blades and will custom fab about any configuration. What you are looking for is a common item in many of the various plastic fabrication/molding methods.
