Rustronic Mark II Control System for Gas Turbines

01/09/2016 10:29 AM

We have the Alstom/Siemens Tornado at our plant. It uses the Rustronic Mark II as its control system. I am just starting out as an engineer so I would really appreciate some information, possibly a set of helpful links or pdf documents etc. about the Rustronic Mark II. Some information about the cards that it uses and how they work together and the software it uses etc.

This is what I have been able to gather so far:

- We use InTouch WindowMaker for the HMI.

- We use Laplink Gold 12.0 to establish a serial link between the control system and our server.

- We use DC Desk to program it.

I know the topic is very open-ended in nature and I am asking for a little too much here but I am at my wit's end. I cannot find anything more than a brochure about the Tornado/SGT-200 or its control system online. Please help me. I am not asking you to spoonfeed me. Just point me in the right direction. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for all the help in advance.

I would ask your maintenance people, then I'm funny that way.

<...cannot find anything more than a brochure...online...>

Then switch to the telephone, and ask them directly; the telephone number is in the brochure.

Usually, when you buy a genset, you buy servicing, description of operation, maintenance, repair, documentation with it.

This should still be on-site. Ask everyone if they know where it might be.

Ask for the security access codes for the various softwares too. A bad consequence of software based systems is that the documentation may be withheld, outdated or plain bad - the logic involved in every malfunction is obscure - every least modification is a massive cost.

I once had to hack through a whole turbine speed control and synchronising sequence software done by someone in another company- until I found the reason for intermittent sudden deceleration when breaker closed was that the turbine reference was instant switched to 50.00 Hz at closure, ignoring Grid frequency.

I remember a job I heard about where dozens of full copies of documentation went to the wrong office at the customer's in Greece, where a clerk just left it without telling anyone. Much contract agro about final payments and non-delivery and lack of documents at the operation sites resulted over months until a chance visit to the office by someone who knew about the lost info.

Maybe this is the first test for the new starter....

I would like to thank everybody for their responses. I got in touch with the Maintenance/Operations people and they hooked me up with the documentation. I finally have all the information I need. :) Trying to figure out Mark VI for now.
