Couldn't very well call it "mature egg" since that would presume that the egg came first!!!!

Besides, there had to be the original "white meat" for everything else to be compared to.

Ok.. I'll give you that there are other names.. I wasn't aware of the one for rabbit. What I'm speaking of is the name for the meat you see on the menu.

I've seen a poultry section.. Ok.. And mutton too.

Wait? I'm still unsure how hamburgers got on the beef menu?

There are many examples too.

Bison is a bison burger..

Eel is an eel.

So why is pigion squab?

Vealy.. I'd like to know

It seems maybe the common denominator is the size of the animal. If you don't generally cook the whole thing at once, the part you cook has a different name.

It's called "chicken" because it hadn't gotten "...across the road..." yet when alternative names were being passed out.

You forgot turkey. Turkey meat is turkey, just as chicken is chicken. Then there are all the different types of fish, and there is another puzzler - more than one fish, is still fish, except in certain exceptions. Why?

Better question - why haven't we taken the time to simplify the English language? We have mixed at least 6 different languages together so that every rule has an exception, and there are a multitude of similarly spelled words pronounced differently.
