SA516 Plate Material for Wet H2S Service

03/24/2016 9:04 PM

The licensor has specified LTCS material for stripper column in wet H2s service. In the Material specification , KCS with 6mm corrosion allowance is specified and also the requirement is for HIC test and PWHT. The MDMT is -22 deg C as per datasheet. My query is whether to use SA516Gr 60(N) plate or SA516Gr 70(N) plate.

Thanks for the answer..

I would contact your metal supplier to see what they might recommend...I would think either would work, but your supplier might have some better information about their product specific qualities....and you might go into greater detail...I would say from what you have said that the SA516Gr 70(N) would do nicely...but I am not an expert in this area and do not possess all the pertinent information...

Contact a supplier and ask them. They are the experts in their field.

If they think you will buy from them, they will help you.

The surprisingly large corrosion allowance of 6mm would lead me to consider another class of material. (I'm not familiar with what is best for H2S service, though.)

Whatever material you are using, calculate the required thickness. If you can use a lesser thickness of a stronger material, the weight reduction may save some money. This becomes an economic decision of comparing possible alternatives.

How about asking the licensor first.
