Split Bolt Connector with Balls

03/29/2016 9:40 AM

What are they for? Came across this splitbolt connector, one of the balls is missing but the other one moves up and down on that little rod?

Any ideas

( mods this is a serious inquiry not a joke)

Can you post full picture of the connector ?

Where/what is this from(application) ?

Normally it's used to connect cables/wires and such, but balls..... ??

Moving in/out, but that's normally used as tension indicator in specialty bolts.

NO:2 OzzB,

That is a tie rod end for a 1960s -1970s International Harvester Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor, I have 4 new ones, had them for 50+years just looking for a use. I just cant throw things like that away.

I've only ever used the female version, it's quite unique...maybe if you remove the other ball it will be quite eunuch. sorry, couldn't help myself.

I've never seen, nor heard, of such a thing.

Well if the rod is attached to the separator, the amount sticking out could be used for determining proper tightness by wire compression measurement...maybe a prototype that never panned out....

If you are not sure what it is, how do you know a ball is missing?

The other side has a hole and broken rod in it. But yes I assumed it had one on the other side.

The rod and ball does not seem to be connected to the pressure plate.

"The rod and ball does not seem to be connected to the pressure plate." -- what pressure plate? Is there more to the story?

GA

I did a quick image search for split bolt connectors, and, they are invariably used to joint electrical connections, sometimes for tensioning wires.

Being I've been away for a while I'm glad to see the hater's are still with us!

To me and like some many other threads here, there's always more to the story.

I've used wire splices that are set up in a similar fashion but not with a ball as a contact point.

Can you post a more defined picture of this?
