Why don't you check out the uses of the various chemicals on the internet (e.g. Wikipedia), then compare which is the cheapest to produce and has the most useful applications? In this way, at least you'll have an idea what your potential market will be.

if you really read far and wide, you will discover that there is really no preference of one chemical to another. this is probably because you Ultimately require one chemical as a starting point to make another chemical that you may think is more important.

however, why not look at the potentials of CAUSTIC SODA.

How do you get to that point in your life? I mean did you wake up this morning and say,"Hey, I'm going to make some Chemical, it's going to be fun and I'll be rich! But what which ones?"

I've been a member of this site for a while and every now and again is seems some engineer gets on with a barrel of money and want our advise on what to do with it?

I just want to know where the barrel of money is comming from and where do I get some?

I have seen this as well on this site a few times in the past. This always seems to confuse me. I work in a paper mill where every product and side product we make is hardly ever in question and all of our equipment is set up best for us to make it. If we decided to change which type basic products we made then it would be super expensive and labor intensive to say the least. This is not to say that we are constantly trying to find better ways to make what we make. It is almost like company gave someone a chemical plant or refinery and said hey bud we can make all this things but we really are not sure on the best one. If you going to run it why don't you decide what to make. Are there really places in the world that have invested in all the equipment needed to make these certain types of chemicals without having a market for them or doing the up front studies into what would be the best products to make? Are chemical plants made like big kitches so one would use the same equipment with different raw materials sort of like a cooking recipe? Or am I missing something here?

I'm with you Pipewelder, if someone gave me $9 million, I'd know what I'd do with it, I'd do what I do best. I'd start a machine shop, produce parts for others at a reasonable cost, and I'd make abunch of money... but as I look around my cubical, I don't see $9 Million, heck I'm lucky if I find 9 cents.

Labyguy:

I read your comments with interest. Thanks for giving me the best laughter of the day. I laughed so loud that the passerby colleague put his head in the door and asked me if every thing is OK?

Also I liked your sign and the quote at the bottom.

Once again thanks for the day and I hope it continues to grow as it started, happy.

You have a blessed day and enjoy the day to the fullest.

Yeah, and how you make a barrel of money? And to tell all those guys and gals (Ladies and Gentlemen) who want to become millionnaire may want to know that I am working on my second million as I heard that the first million is difficult to make. So, I bypassd the first and working on my second. Of course, starting this chemical business may not take you there. It may not take you any where at all.

Regards;

Hmm, one possibility is marry wealth, or huge insurance policy, create a scenario in which partner dies in accident, and a barrel of money arrives at the door thereafter.

For only half a barrel of money I'll tell anybody in the world what chemicals they should make. No need to marry money, to off your partner, or be nearly struck dead by lightening.

So where is this discussion heading? Is this a place for your life's catharsis? Are there no better forums for that?
