I Finally Believe in Global Warming

11/02/2005 9:17 AM

For years I have been skeptical of Global Warming theories. It always seemed like they were based on flawed models, not to mention that we don't know the Earth's warming and cooling patterns.

But this morning, I read this - from one of the groups that stand to lose the most. If they are afraid, so am I.

What, Me Worry?

11/03/2005 2:03 PM

Insurance companies have whole departments that are paid to worry about "what-ifs". It does not necessarily make for good science. Insurance companies have also decided that a teenage girl with a cell phone in a Honda Prius is as big of a risk as a teenage boy in a new Mustang Cobra. Statistically, that was a hard lesson to learn. Back to the subject. The fact that the earth appears to be in an overall warming pattern is statistically accurate for the years that accurate data has been kept. The future curve of that data and the cause is not so easily discerned.

Agreed, but given that we don't have a back-up system for our climate, mitigatatory action probably remains the most logical response.
