Any textbook on differential equations will discuss harmonic motion in great detail and describe the methods for solving the resulting differential equations. If you are having trouble understanding a particular part of this, and seeking help, it would be helpful if you gave the details of where you are stuck. It would be even better if you asked your instructor for help.

It's when the acceleration towards a point is proportional to the distance from the point. Everything else follows from that.
