New Sensors Track Seniors' Health Status

06/06/2016 8:52 AM

Mr. Best in Show and I have been dealing with older relatives for a few years. One of the hardest problems -- and I'm sure this isn't news for so many of in CR4 land -- is figuring out how to let an older person safely remain in his or her current home. I'm continually astonished at the things sensors can do. See this research report from the University of Missouri. By the time Mr. B in S and I are the age my mother is now, I'm expecting sensors to do everything for us or at least tell our caregivers what needs doing.

Bring on the up-load arrangements so one can spend the remainder of eternity in the internet. Wahoo!

before my mom passed I had given her a necklace to wear, it looked like a regular piece of jewelry but contained all her medication and contact info on a USB drive. several companies sell these. its a really good idea for older folks with brains that are gumming up and wander

Fredski, I hadn't heard about these and I'm glad you posted this info. I'll speak to my siblings about getting one for our mother. Thanks!

The UK has introduced a scheme where you can have your heath records and medication on a database all doctors can access.

Once the doctor establishes who you are, even if you're unconscious treatment can be maintained.

It is purely voluntary to go on the database, given my state of health I immediately signed up for it. Friends, some in a worse state of health than I reacted with "I'm not having anyone looking at my medical records", more fool them is all I'll say.

Except, at times of malfunction, perhaps.

A bunch of companies have been doing research along this line. GE, Honeywell, even Intel. I think at least one of them has a product out there.
