Bolton Strid

07/07/2016 12:44 PM

I was recently reading about the Bolton Strid,a very innocuous looking booby trap in England.

The Wharfe river is abruptly reduced in width at this point, and the banks are severely undercut by the swift and deep water.

Anyone that falls in is never seen again.

There are caves and cilff faces under the banks, according to the article I read, and this strid has been there thousands of years.

It seems like this would be a paradise of lost bones of people and animals, akin to the tar pits.

Has anyone explored this area with ground penetrating radar,or a tethered robot and camera?

I have been there, it does look fairly innocent.

Last time I was in the area the Warfe was in spate and my car was near washed away. The Warfe can be a dangerous river.

I have a small industrial ROV, about the size of a beach ball.

The urge to drop everything and board a plane right now is overwhelming.

Thanks for a very intriguing post, I am fascinated by unexplored areas that have for centuries, been right on our doorsteps.
