Net working problem

08/06/2007 6:59 PM

This is a problem relating to networking. I have got server (NetPower) from Wipro. This has got two ethernet ports. Through one I was receving internet (Broad Band Leased Line using RF. Router address being 192.168.1.1) with the following settings IP: 192.168.1.100; subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1) and through another port I am coonecting Local Lan (IP:192.168.1.10; subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; Default Gateway:192.168.1.10; Preferred DNS Server 192.168.1.10). This set up was working fine and there was no problem in getting Internet at the server and nodes. Recently I had a problem with the router and its has been rectified now. and I am able to receive internet at server and I am not able to receive at the nodes with old IP settings settings which was going fine. Though there are other methods of connecting from router I prefer to have a setting which I was already having. Can any one spot out the problem and give a solution?

When you say nodes, are you talking about the two ports to the server or are you talking about other devices? One thing that is odd is you have one of your ports looking at itself (its own IP address 192.168.1.10) as it's default gateway? If this is true, how is it supposed to route itself. What happens if you specify its default gateway as the same as the other 192.168.1.1?

Do you own the router? If yes, what brand and type?

Nodes refers to computers connected to local network. There is no mistake in assigning the IP addresses to the two net work cards (builtin) as I was able to receive internet in the server and local computers. In local computers Gateway is assigned as 192.168.1.10 and also for DNS server. I have told that this assigning was working fine. Incidentally service people have diagnosed it to be the problem of networking cards built in and they are trying to replace. However thanks for your expert comments and welcome. we own the router and it is from Cisco 820

Well it must be reassuring to know you didn't do anything incorrect.

Good Luck, and happy networking!!!

There is a "Reset" button in the back of Router.
Press it once by a fine but blunt end pin like paper-clip straightened & wait for some time
Hope will help

Thank you sir, for your suggestion for reset. I will do that in consultation with SIFY who is maintaining the router.
