Help with Yamaha RXV 473 Ethernet Not Working

09/17/2016 6:39 PM

Hello, I have a Yamaha RX-V473 Stereo Receiver that has an ethernet port for playing internet Radio. During an electrical Storm the modem was fried and also the Ethernet Port, everything else on the stereo other than the access to the web is working. So I am suspecting that the Ethernet Network is not working. By looking at the Service Manual, I can see that there is what looks to be a Yamaha Ethernet Network part that is the suspect of being not working i.e. the RJSE1AG3870-R, which seems to be properatory of Yamaha. I would appreciate your help in getting this part replaced by a proper part and/or further comments on other tests that I might need to do. I appreciate your Help

Best Regards

Fernando Ortiz

So can you still stream music over AirPlay? Have you tried reset?

Well first you have to take it apart and look for damage....Identify the ethernet board or other components....take pictures get numbers off the boards....

How have you tested the ethernet port....? I would try connecting a laptop to it....secondly it might just be the connector itself that is damaged....

Assuming they use the same LAN8700 Ethernet chip in the Yamaha RX-V473 which is in the RX-V573, I suspect the electrical storm induced voltages in your network wiring much higher than the recommended 3.6v maximum for the TXN, TXP, RXN and RXP pins (28, 29, 31 and 32 respectively). I would start by replacing this component.

My daughter got a hit by lightning somewhere in the backyard. I was there when it hit and know that the house wasn't hit but it was damn close. No, one second one, just a flash and a bang. It fried several TV's, a Sonos unit and a number of other items. I'm betting you need to replace several items that were hardwired in.
