Non-Phenol Vased Hot Mounting Materials

10/31/2016 11:10 AM

I am just wondering what the general consensus is on phenofree hot mounting resins? Do people think this is the future, with regards to the safety fears of phenol fumes when baking?

No fear at all. That why we have hoods and properly designed exhaust systems.

The fear I was talking about is the health risk to those working in facilities using hot mounting techniques..?

What is your concern? You must have a reason to be posting this question on this forum. Industrial hygiene can address your concerns quite well. These are well known techniques for protecting the health of workers. Provided they are installed and used of course.

My reason is to gauge the consensus regarding which way the resin market is likely to go in. There is only one phenofree product out there so I'm intrigued to see if this is a pioneering move likely to take hold, or merely a pointless alternative.

These guys do not know either?

If you are looking for an engineering consensus similar to a scientific one then you are wasting your time.

If you try to promote something, you are wasting your time.

If this stuff really exists it will be used here and there and become part of the manufacturing process. Nobody is in the oven when this stuff bakes so what concerns you with the Phenol fumes? For this see post #1.

Since the forum has no idea what country you are in, or what market you want to exploit, how could we answer?

Check with OSHA.

Certain filtration media (oil/gas/air) is bonded with phenol resins that produce (and perhaps synthesize) formaldehyde when curing. There is considerable effort to find a substitute for these resin formulations for industrial hygiene (due to poor hood capture on a continuous moving web) and air emissions, is a regulated substance in the US.

Significant investments in scrubbing technology, or other even more expensive mitigation techniques could be avoided if a suitable substitute could be found.
